Welcome to Miami!

This weekend was all about salt in the air & sand in our hair! If you follow me on Instagram [which you really should! ;) ] you would have seen that we went down to Miami Beach for the weekend. I've only been to South Beach once with my college roommate, Aubrey, but that was when we were 20 years old, and I knew I had to experience Miami again now that I'm living 4.5 hours away and of age! Since creating my  Summer Bucket List, I've been dedicated to complete it and Miami was #7 on that list! The water in Miami is so beautiful! I hadn't seen water this clear since visiting Greece & am still in awe that this beach is located in America. Don't get me wrong, America is filled…

Swimming in the Sea at Sunrise; Jacksonville, FL

This weekend was one for the books, to say the least. I was lucky enough to spend a few seasons throughout the past 4 years living abroad in London and have made some pretty awesome friends along the way. This past weekend, 2 of my friends came down and we reunited on the American soil of Jacksonville, Florida. Jonny, David, and I at JAX Beach Jonny, the one on the left, flew all the way across the pond and brought his sister, Jenny, and friend, Ben. Saturday afternoon, I made a huge brunch for all our friends while we sipped on mimosas and awaited Jonny's arrival. [Is anything better than brunch, btw?] Once the Brit's had arrived, we piled into an Uber and headed down to JAX Beach. Jacksonville Beach is actually pretty nice…

Refreshing My Mind; Amelia Island [pt. 2]

Amelia Island Florida

Another awesome thing about Amelia Island is that you're able to drive your car & ride horses right on the beach! Our horses loved one another & walked through the ocean; it was an amazing experience. {If you missed my part 1 Amelia Island recap, you can read it here!} Oh, and guess what? Riding horses on the beach now knocks off my first 2015 Summer Bucket List challenge! After grabbing lunch, we headed down to the beach to meet up with Happy Trails, a company that runs this program. They have different hour time slots you can sign up for and trot on down the sand. Nicky, our tour guide, was so nice. She ensured that everyone felt comfortable (we had a small group of 4 people), and allowed us to go as slow or…

Refreshing My Mind; Amelia Island [pt. 1]

Sometimes, all you need is to get away and refresh your mind. It's been hard to find motivation lately. Whether it is challenging myself at work, working out as much as I'd like to, starting a new book, blog more, not procrastinate to the last minute on grad school assignments, pick up a new hobby... simply everything was just feeling a little "blah" lately. Of course, these ruts and moods don't last too long, typically, but I've found that getting away and some fresh air for your mind does wonders. Tucked away just under an hour outside of Jacksonville is Amelia Island, a historic state park located in Fernandina, Florida. With 13 miles of beautiful beaches, abundant native wildlife, and pristine waters, this barrier island was the perfect weekend getaway destination for Dj and I this…

My 2015 Summer Bucket List

Even though I've graduated from college & have been in the "real world" for a good year and a half, I'm still under the illusion there is such a thing as a Summer Vacation. Maybe it's from the 23-ish years that I'd had one, I'm not sure, but I do know that I'm not ready to give up the idea of one. There is something so tranquil, relaxing, and downright FUN about summer time. Maybe what we need to do instead is still find ways to make time to enjoy the things we love- and I'm doing that with a 2015 Summer Bucket List! As I accomplish my "goals", I'll strike them out & include the date. I invite you all to embrace your inner summertime kid & make a list of your own!…

Prepared for Warmer Weather: Drinks & Salads

When the weather begins to heat up, my food & drink preferences change. I no longer crave cooler weather comfort foods like soup or heartier meals, such as chili (even though it's delish). I begin to migrate towards salads, smoothies, iced coffee, cold wraps, hummus inspired dishes, lighter choices for everyday snacking, and plenty of fruits in different varieties! [My clothing choice also begins to lighten up. ;) ] The other day, it was 86 degrees & there was not a cloud in the sky. We went to one of my all time favorite Happy Hour spots, M Shack. I ordered the [above] drink which was a Green Tea Mojito. I love green tea, and I love mojitos, but together? That apprehensive curiosity quickly turned into die-hard love after one sip. This drink…

Being a Tourist in Our Own City; St. Augustine

If you haven't caught up on my weeks worth of posts yet, Dj's mom & sister came down to Florida to visit! We jammed packed a lot through the 4 days (including our epic trip to Harry Potter World!) and, of course, we had to plan a day trip to St. Augustine. St. Augustine is only about 25 minutes away from us, and is definitely my favorite local spot. [I've broken down the history & my love for it here and here!] Dj's sister, Cassie, had visited us once before but it was his mom, Tracy's, first time. These are the old city gates! It used to be the only way in or out of St. Augustine. It was a gorgeous day! We went inside the fort, which, if you enjoy history, you'd love.…

Visiting Harry Potter World! #MuggleLife

This past weekend, Dj's mom and sister came down to Jacksonville to visit! All of us are big Harry Potter fans, and it was his mom's birthday, so we knew we had to take a trip down to Orlando and explore the new Harry Potter world at Universal Studios! I haven't been since they've added HP World. Of course, I had to enjoy some butter beer in front of the castle. I was blown away at just how amazing of a job they did! The rides were mostly all stimulation, but they made it seem just like the movies. This tube stop definitely brought me back to my London days! *ah, nostalgia* The goblins in Gringotts bank looked so real! We had to do a double take to see if they were actually people…
