Refreshing My Mind; Amelia Island [pt. 1]
Sometimes, all you need is to get away and refresh your mind.
It’s been hard to find motivation lately. Whether it is challenging myself at work, working out as much as I’d like to, starting a new book, blog more, not procrastinate to the last minute on grad school assignments, pick up a new hobby… simply everything was just feeling a little “blah” lately.
Of course, these ruts and moods don’t last too long, typically, but I’ve found that getting away and some fresh air for your mind does wonders.
Tucked away just under an hour outside of Jacksonville is Amelia Island, a historic state park located in Fernandina, Florida. With 13 miles of beautiful beaches, abundant native wildlife, and pristine waters, this barrier island was the perfect weekend getaway destination for Dj and I this weekend.
I’m not sure the exact population, but it can’t be very high. It’s funny, we were so close to home, but it felt like we were in a different state/world entirely. It almost had a Charleston feel to it! Very cute, friendly, and beautiful.
To start the day, we walked the streets downtown, stopped in a few shops, and just admired the quaint island.
This home reminded me the house Noah built in The Notebook! So adorable. They had these informative signs all around downtown to explain the historic significance of all the sites. [I love little history lessons old towns bring]
All of the buildings looked like they could be in a movie. Someone should inform Nicholas Sparks of this place. 😉
We stopped at a place called Jack & Diane’s for lunch. I ordered the “World’s Best Tacos”. I’m not sure about the world’s best.. but they were pretty good. (I still prefer these chicken tacos!)
They came with grilled seasoned chicken, pineapple, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, corn, and jalapeños.
You simply could not beat the service! The staff was extremely friendly, overly accommodating, and all their drinks came with cute paper heart straws. (Plus they had white sangria! Yum.)

I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend! What did you get into?
