Let’s Get Serious for a Moment

Being Kind Quote

I've never strayed away from my happy/healthy lifestyle genre that this blog is created after, but today that's going to change as I talk about something that weighs very heavy on my heart. Buzzfeed shared a story to Facebook this week about a human rights group who filmed themselves as they ripped a puppy from the grasping hands of a homeless man. The man is shown sobbing as he fights for his dog back, even being brought to the ground as he desperately watches these thieves steal his dog and run while he lays crying and defeated on the cement ground. While I'm living in the states & this story happened in Paris, it's an extremely common occurrence to hear stories such as these. Stories that show the homeless population as less than human.…

Comment below with your favorite relaxing song or artist, and I'll be sure to check it out! Do we share any of the same favorites? What I’ve Been Up To Lately

Southern Tier Beer

I'm always shocked at how quickly time goes. I mean, it feels like it was just yesterday I packed up my things in West Virginia and moved to Florida, but here we are, just hitting over our year & a half mark. Sometimes, it nice to just pause and reflect on what's going on with you right now. As a whole, I think we tend to always be thinking in the future; "I have to study now so that I can get into a good school. I need to go to a good school and obtain a degree so that I can provide for a family I do not have yet.." And so on and so on. I'm not saying preparing for the future is a bad thing, I'm simply stating that it's nice…

Labor Day Weekend Getaway

Amelia Island Florida

Weekends tend to fly by lately. It's nice when one slows down a bit and you actually feel like you had some time off. This past Labor Day weekend, my mom came down to Florida to visit for 3 days. We decided to go out to have a relaxing weekend in my favorite nearby vacation spot, Amelia Island. On Friday, we stayed in Jacksonville and had dinner on the beach. It was nearly empty out and a beautiful night! Life really is better on the sea; it's just so calming. [don't worry, I took my shoes off ;) I am no shoeby] After dinner & Sweet Frog, we spent the night hanging out with wine and Netflix. We woke up early the next morning to head to the island. One of my mom's friends…

What’s on My Nightstand; vol. 2

Good books to read

Is anyone else in complete denial that it's already the middle of September? Now that it's fall (even though it's still in the 90s down here in good old Florida), I thought I'd share with you what's on my reading list for this season. [if you want to read series one of What's on My Nightstand, you can do so here!] 1. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer Being that it was just the somber anniversary of September 11th, this book is extremely fitting. It follows a young boy on a journey to find what unlocks a key that his father had hidden. After his dad passed away in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he is looking for a way to search for him in a world in which he is no longer…

Instagram Round Up! vol. 2

Eating Out Healthy

I realize not alllll of you have Instagram [although I’m extremely obsessed with it and don’t understand how not everyone can not be 😉 ], so I thought I’d share with you all some of my simple go-to’s I typically reserve for my Insta! {In case you missed it, you can find my first Instagram Round Up here!} While I love to cook, I also love to go out to eat. I enjoy the whole atmosphere of getting out with your friends and not needing to worry about cooking, cleaning, and ensuring everyone likes the food. When going out, I try to keep my choices light since typically restaurants pack calories into their meals. Deerwood Bistro is my favorite breakfast & lunch spot in Jacksonville. Here I ordered their curry chicken salad in a spinach wrap…

What I’m Reading: “Looking for Alaska” Review

Looking for Alaska Book Review

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen this post coming.. ;) By now, you've most likely heard of the award winning, extremely popular author, John Green. He's written an array of best sellers from The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns, and the novel I am focusing on today, Looking for Alaska. Looking for Alaska was John Green's first novel and was published in 2005. From Green's recent explosion of popularity from The Fault in Our Stars (which also was a hit movie), he has been honored with numerous awards, his books have topped best sellers lists, and he has become an iconic role model for young adults everywhere. Even though Green's work is primarily for a young adult audience, featuring stories of coming of age characters, he hits home with readers of…
