What I’m Reading- “The Giver” Review

You can Buy the book here!

This month is pretty hectic for everyone, so it’s not too surprising that I haven’t found much time to read. My last book review was a little over a month ago, which was not my goal! One the craziness of the holidays die down, I think the goal of reading 2 books a month will be more doable.

If you’re looking for a book that is an easy read but interesting, The Giver by Luis Lowry would be a great one.

I know many people who have read this book in school, but I never did. Since it is so well-known and just recently a major film, I wanted to give it a shot.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. I was able to finish it on my 5 hour flight and it kept me entertained.

The main concept behind The Giver is a world in which we don’t have any memories of the past and live in a strict, black and white rule-following world. Everything is monitored, and people, since they do not have past memories, do not feel or view life the way we do.

It was interesting to imagine a world that lives that way, and Luis Lowry has a great imagination and is able to portray deep feelings extremely well.

I am excited to see the movie; since this is a short book, I’m assuming they will follow it exactly and be able to convey a lot of detail. Apparently The Giver is the first book in a series of 4 novels, but most people stop after this one. While I’m not sure if I would reread this book, I do think I’ll finish the series eventually.

The Giver is a good book to read at this busy time of year. It’s an easy read that you can finish shortly and put down when needed- I would recommend it!

Has anyone read the other books in the series? I’d love to know what your thoughts on it were!
