Skinny 7 Layer Taco Dip

Skinny 7 Layer Taco Dip – Tailgating Thursday

Skinny 7 Layer Taco DipI’m the queen of dips.

The favorite buffalo chicken dip… the classic french onion dip with a healthy twist… or the ever so simple creamy roasted garlic homemade hummus… and now this skinny 7 layer taco dip are all a staple in my presence, especially when football is involved.

I’m one of those people who can’t show up to a gathering empty handed. If someone, no matter who they are, is having a get together, count me in to bring my favorite bottle of wine or better yet, a dish to share that I know mostly everyone will be a fan of.

7 layer taco dip is something I’m 99% sure everyone has heard of and most enjoy. As you know, I love taking classic comfort recipes and giving them a light twist, which is exactly what I did here. With a few easy ingredient swaps, this typical calorie packed dish is now filled with protein & healthy fats. 🙂

Skinny 7 Layer Taco Dip

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 medium jar of salsa
  • 1 can low fat refried beans
  • 1 package low sodium taco seasoning
  • 8 oz nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • 4 oz guacamole
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup sliced cherry tomatoes

By replacing the typical sour cream with nonfat Greek yogurt, cutting way down on the cheese quantity, adding more salsa & fresh veggies, this typically calorie packed dip is now something you don’t have to look twice at. Pair with some fresh veggies to dip with it, and you’re good to go!

One trick I learned in high school when making any dips using refried beans is to mix in a package of taco seasoning with them. It makes ALL the difference!

I’ll start with that layer at the bottom so that I don’t dirty up two pans [seriously a HUGE fan of one pan meals!] and then layer on the ingredients typically as followed:

  1. Beans mixed with taco seasoning
  2. Greek yogurt
  3. Guacamole
  4. Salsa
  5. Cheese
  6. Black olives
  7. Cherry tomatoes

I only added the olives & fresh tomatoes to half the dish due to my boyfriend being weird and detesting the two. 😉

I pair this dip with tortilla chips, sliced cucumbers, sliced bell peppers, and celery!

What would you pair yours with?
