Homemade Air Fresheners

DIY Air Fresheners

There are few things in life I enjoy more than a really great smelling home. My apartment is flooded with candles ranging in every different scent, brand, and wax base. However, the downfall of candles are that:

  1. You cannot leave them burning when you leave your house
  2. They eventually die out 🙁
  3. Those beautiful little jars can be pretty pricey

You can do so much with essential oils (plus the scents last a while!) that I decided to play around with what I already had on hand. Good news guys, these actually turned out!

DIY Air Fresheners

You’ll Need:

  • A jar of your choice [I chose a standard mason jar since I always have them on hand]
  • 1/4-1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil *
  • 8×8 square of a light weight fabric

*I made 2 jars of this; one being Lavender/Orange and the other being Lemon/Vanilla. You can, of course, do only one scent, but if you do more than one, just do equal parts (10 drops of each).

In a jar, measure out your baking soda. Since it is used to neutralize odors, baking soda absorbs the scent of the oil & doesn’t give off any of it’s own!

Add the drops of oil & gently stir to combine.

With the fabric, I ended up cutting it into a rounded, flower-like pattern so that some of it hung around the edges of the jar. You can also cut it to fit the circle part that would typically seals the jar in order to not have any excess hang off!

With a needle, poke holes in the fabric while swirling it around to make the holes a decent size.

That’s it! Every few days, give the jar a shake & a new burst of scent will appear!

What scent combo would you like to try out?
